videos are great. Thanks to (mainly) youtube, the internet is full of them. However, they can take a while to load and don’t make for great content, so, unless the video is relevant to something I’m writing about, I am only going to post random videos once a week. T for YouTube, T for Tuesday. Because there are no days of the week beginning with V(ideo) or Y(outube).

The Grand Canyon Skywalk opens to the public tomorrow.

Its nearing the end of my 2nd day without a cigarette. Here is a brilliantly animated video by Jeremy Fisher for his song Cigarette, his album is out tomorrow.

The numa numa guy is back. I think he’s just after money this time. He now has ringtones, a contest where you could win $45,000 and you can chat to Gary! The lyrics are “new numa” rather than “numa numa” and he has a classy website “www.newnuma.com

Very cool and extra long Simpsons intro which was aired on Sunday as part of the episode Homerazzi.

Saturday was the last day of ‘the show‘ with Ze Frank. Today I watched it for the first time in a few weeks.

[damn just lost all I had written so have to start again...]

I found Ze and his Show almost a year ago, and every few weeks I watch the shows I have missed. I much prefer to watch a few at a time rather than just one.

It was from the first time I was introduced to Ze that I became hooked. I started showing all my friends. Even at parties after a few drinks. Although he definitely takes a little getting used to, his fast paced, in-your-faceness, non-blinking and intellectual comedy can take some people a little getting used to. I managed to make fans of a few people however.

Apparently Ze does not write a script for his shows. I’m not saying I don’t believe him when he says this, its that I sure couldn’t do it. I would have to write every word or I would end up “umming” and “ahhing”, and generally lots of stuttering. But Ze does it. Everyday (or thereabouts). Always something current and fresh to say.

Sports Racer J.W., stated in January 2007:

“In interviews, Ze claims he writes nothing down before a show and uses no script. [From http://www.observer.com/20070122/200...thetransom.asp, Ze is quoted as saying "I dont write anything"] I have to dispute this claim

Though this may be true for a lot of episodes, there are a significant number of shows that must have required research, preparation work, and planning, which make me doubt Ze’s claim of “writing nothing”

Ze himself replied saying (completely unscripted, apparently)

i love that of all the episodes you chose “fingers in food” and an episode in which i wore adult diapers to try and sleuth out my process.

believe it or not you can still make things without having written them out beforehand.

for example i just wrote this paragraph without any preparation whatsoever.

amazing isn’t it.

improv.

now pardon me while i walk around the corner to pick up some more diapers. and perhaps some spaghetti sauce.

He brings in many current topics from news reports, local (NYC) and national (occasionally international) often political, and a wide variety of other random musings, teaching his viewers about various aspects of life including: user created media, auditioning, college, friends, traveling, terror, sex and I think there was one about video blogging too. Each episode is filled with great intellect and humour, with plenty of original ideas, both slightly crazy and extremely imaginative. He likes to laugh and dance and sing too!

One thing that gained popularity very quickly was viewer interactivity in the form of sending in videos, and so the power moves were born as well as many other projects. It all makes me want a digital camcorder even more, but they are just too expensive.

I think he has graduated with flying colours, from The League of Awesomeness.

I will miss Ze lots. I hope he brings it all out on dvd.

Ze, I wish you luck with your big future plans, of which I’m sure you have plenty.

Here are a few of my favourites. (I hadn’t planned for 10 favourites it just turned out that way. I’d rather it wasn’t 10 ‘cos lists are always in 10’s, generally just one 10 too. OK I’ll add another.)

(Just realised I should have subscribed using iTunes from the very beginning so I could have downloaded them all - only the last 14 are available.)

So everyone knows by now that Britney Spears shaved her head at the weekend. Personally I think there is no problem with it. Does someone have to have some sort of health problem, mental or otherwise, to do something like that. A little unexpected, but c’mon leave her alone.

Thanks to Across the Line I saw Badly Drawn Boy in the Mandela Hall last night.

I must say, it was good, but not as good as I had hoped. Maybe it was because I didn’t know very many songs, or the fact that a lot of them seemed to run into each other and sounded very similar. It could also have been the fact that he had to read his own lyrics placed on a music stand in front of his keyboard, or that he looked at his watch. It certainly didn’t help that he started quite early. Certainly earlier than I was expecting. Having read on Ticketmaster that the doors opened at 7:30pm, though only got home at 8, we got down at 8:50. He had already started. According to one gig-goer, he had been on for about 30mins and was on his 5th or 6th song.

It probably would have helped had we made it to the venue sooner, though I do think it was very early to be starting, and is 10:30pm not early to finish?
Anyway - it was enjoyable.

I recorded my first YouTube video!

Too tired to do anything else - so heres some youtube videos I’ve seen lately

This one has been doing the rounds on the blogosphere over the last week or so - but it’s so good, everyone must see it to get a greater understanding of the interweb.

The Etiquette of Modern Communication. Some useful tips for communicating is this world of technology.

The phone is so pressing, so overt, so immediate, the only socially appropriate reason to use it is if you’re trapped in a fiery building or someone’s in the hospital.

Instant messaging is only slightly less intrusive than a phone call, but it’s still expected that your respond in under a minute if you’re there.

it’s basically okay to ignore it if you’re busy. Unlike a phone call, it won’t keep bugging the recipient to answer.

Quite a performance from Prince during the Superbowl Half Time Show. Check out the video here

The release date of the seventh and final (aww) book in the Harry Potter series has been announced - and I don’t care. I got bored half way through the third. I will be doing something else at 12:01 a.m. on July 21, 2007.

Some interesting definitions of sex

With all members coming close to 60, the Eagles have reformed and recording a new album.

Iron Maiden are to headline the Download Festival again. I would still love to see them live. Though this is not the sort of thing I will be going to on my own.

NME New Best New Band vote. Am I behind the times or something? The only band I have heard from this list is The Fratellis and I don’t like them.

Tesco are to stop selling CD singles in its shops from March 5. No one really cares. If you don’t know how to download music by now…

This kid is amazing! We often think that children who are made the play the piano from a young age are unhappy, but this kid looks so happy and seems to enjoy what he is doing very much. A wonderful thing. Probably doesn’t know how good he is.

I hate Macs too. Charlie Brooker writes about why he hates macs and their new advertising campaign.

I hate Macs. I have always hated Macs. I hate people who use Macs. I even hate people who don’t use Macs but sometimes wish they did. Macs are glorified Fisher-Price activity centres for adults; computers for scaredy cats too nervous to learn how proper computers work; computers for people who earnestly believe in feng shui.

unleash the unreleased

Monday 5th February

The new Arcade Fire album, Neon Bible was leaked onto the Interweb last week. Unfortunately I was never expecting it to be as g ood as Funeral. I think it will be a while before any band has an album as good as that one. I am still, however, looking forward to purchasing my own copy of the new album. Its growing on me.

I would love to see them live someday…

Being a huge fan of classical music I enjoy putting it on in a bar juke box occasionally. I also enjoy doing that ‘cos its so out of place. But it’s usually hard to hear so there isn’t much point really. I did this on Tuesday in Auntie Annies before going to see The Last King of Scotland (more on that later). I must admit, I haven’t listened to a great deal of classical music over the last few months, this has been sparked by comedian Rob Paravonian (who has a blog) and his rant on why he hates the tune so much.

Someone else who was famous before creating a most excellent web presence is moby, he probably even made the site himself! (*note to self; ask moby if he designed his website*). He often updates his blog many times a day and comes across as very down to earth, like he does on every other medium he has appeared. A lot of his blogging is politically driven, but not all thankfully. He has even talked about issues of net neutrality and put this humourous take on the topic on youtube.
